2007-2008 Harlequins Board Members Officers: President – Lori Demres Vice-President - Jennifer Wertz Secretary – Lisa Wiley Treasurer - Kathlyn Stenzel Board of Directors: Nate Fuller Bart Zimmerman George Muehlhauser Donna Jean Evans Jim Ohlemacher President’s Message.Happy Spring to All! Hey, I'm working on my positive attitude. Did everyone have a good time at the Spring Fling? That's one thing I love about being with theatre people - you tell them it's a spaghetti western themed party and to show up in cowboy/western gear and by golly they do! My "normal" friends would've said it sounded like fun but then come in their same old boring clothes. Can't wait for next year's theme. We should start calling it the Spring Fling Costume Party. Anyway... we have a good possibility of a director for Kid Kompany and a producer as well who is coordinating everything, so if Donna Jean could just get some volunteers to help with Kid Kompany, we should be good to go. So if you'd like to help, please let Donna Jean know ASAP as all the preliminaries are in place and auditions could be as soon as early May once "Kindergarten" closes. I don't want to hear the usual last minute boo-hooing that there won't be a Kid Kompany because we didn't get enough/any volunteers. If you like kids and you like Kid Kompany then gosh darn it - suck it up and volunteer! "Kindergarten" now also has a narrator - Don Doell stepped up - of course, he was under the influence of a lot of spaghetti! Thank you Don! As far as I know "Kindergarten" is also still in need of someone to stage-manage only one week (not sure which week) as Ann Marie will be stage managing for the other week. Someone is also needed to run sound and there may still be a need for some prop people but contact Steve or Deb if you'd like to help out in any little way. See you all at press dress. Lori Things up and coming… Things to look forward to in May: Kid Kompany auditions (we hope), general meeting when we hold elections and you can finally get rid of your president, double board meeting to choose next season's plays. May 4 - "Kindergarten" closes DON’T keep your hands to yourself! On another Kindergarten note - a crew and other backstage help will be needed for Kindergarten - if you'd like to help out in any way or have a special talent you simply must share (like being able to run the light-board, stage managing, designing sound or turning water into wine) please contact Steve Wetzel at 419-621-1218 or YamVstr@aol.com or Deb Presser at 419-627-0380 or dpresser1@yahoo.com Don't be shy now - in Kindergarten - we all learned to share our time and talents! You can ring our bellIf anyone would like any information put on the website, please send it to Jim Ohlemacher at JCOhle@landolls.com he will then send it off to Marc, our webmaster We are trying to cut postage costs for the newsletter and would like to know if anyone receiving the newsletter would prefer to get it by e-mail instead of snail mail. If so, please let Ellie know. Her email address is: estuck@monroeville.k12.oh.us if that's not your thing, we still don't mind sending it by regular mail since we do want everyone to receive it and know what's going on. Also, if there’s anything you want in the newsletter, please let Ellie know. Just try and have it to her by the last week of the month preceeding the month’s newsletter in which you’d like it to appear. Currently in Production ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN By Robert Fulghum April 24, 25, 26, 27, May 1, 2, 3, 4, 2008 Adults make life too complicated yet it's really quite simple. Play fair. Don't hit. Share everything. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt someone. Always hold hands and stick together. These and many more words of wisdom that we all learned in kindergarten are humorously and sagely played out. There's a little bit of each of us in these characters. And if you sit and listen quietly there'll be punch and cookies for everyone. My name is Valerie Thames and I guess I'm the next sucker, excuse me, willing participant in 'Getting to Know You.' I was born and raised here in Sandusky and graduated from Perkins High School way back in 1998. I am the 5th of six girls in my family (my poor, poor father). Although it sounds like a recipe for disaster, it was great. Yes, we drove our parents crazy, but we live to support each other. My sisters are all spread out over these great United States now, but it gives me excellent choices for vacations. I can go to Houston, Atlanta, or Detroit to visit. We all work in the medical field to some extent, and sing in our churches' choirs. A while back I suggested we form a super Gospel group, but they still haven't gotten back to me on that plan. I hope to include a picture with this since many members may not know me. However, technology is not my friend and my pic may have to be done with crayons and construction paper. I am glad that Lori brought up not being defined by what you do in her piece where we got to know her. I feel like I've worked in every 'great institution' in Sandusky and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. My parents made the mistake of telling me I can do anything I put my mind to, and I have been doing that ever since. Fickle yes, fulfilling absolutley! Getting on stage at Harlequin's was a spontaneous decision and I am glad I didn't second guess myself on that one. I have always loved musicals and been obsessed with theatre, but only ever admired from afar. It has been a blast to get a look up close and personal. The people I have been able to work with are brilliant. I can't wait to get to know more about all of you.
